# 1. Lecture

## Week 1: Shot Size, Camera Angle and Composition

In Week 1, we learned about shot size, camera angle and composition. These are important elements in video and film production because they help the audience understand the story, the characters and the mood of a scene.

Shot size means how much of the subject is shown in the frame. A wide shot can show the location and the relationship between the subject and the environment. A medium shot is useful for showing body language and conversation. A close-up shot can show emotion, expression or important details.

Camera angle also affects the meaning of a shot. A high-angle shot can make a subject look weak or small, while a low-angle shot can make a subject look powerful or important. An eye-level shot feels more natural and neutral.

Composition is about arranging the subject, background and other visual elements inside the frame. Good composition can guide the audience’s attention and make the shot easier to understand. From this lecture, I learned that camera choices are not only technical decisions, but also storytelling decisions.

## Week 2: Three-Act Structure

In Week 2, we learned about the three-act structure. This structure is commonly used in films and stories. It includes Act 1, Act 2 and Act 3.

Act 1 is the setup. It introduces the main character, the world of the story and the main problem. This part usually includes the inciting incident, which starts the main conflict.

Act 2 is the confrontation. In this part, the character faces more problems and obstacles. The conflict becomes stronger, and the character may need to make important choices.

Act 3 is the resolution. This part includes the climax and shows how the conflict is solved. The ending also shows the result of the character’s journey.

Through this lecture, I learned that a clear story structure helps the audience follow the story more easily. It is also useful when planning our own video projects.

# 3. Process Work

## Week 1: Editing Exercise 1 — Mints Advertisement

For the first editing exercise, we worked on the Mints advertisement. The task was to arrange the video clips in the correct order and edit them into a complete sequence.

I first watched the clips to understand the story flow. Then, I arranged the clips based on the action and continuity. After that, I imported the clips into Adobe Premiere Pro and placed them on the timeline. I checked the order again to make sure the final video was clear and smooth.

This exercise helped me understand the importance of editing order. If the clips are arranged wrongly, the story can become confusing. I also learned that editing is not only about cutting clips, but also about controlling the rhythm and clarity of the video.

## Week 1: Editing Exercise 2 — Doritos Advertisement

For the second editing exercise, we worked on the Doritos advertisement. This exercise required us to arrange more clips into the correct sequence. Compared with the first exercise, this task was more challenging because I needed to observe the details carefully.

I watched the clips several times and arranged them based on action, reaction and continuity. I also paid attention to small details such as movement direction, character position and object placement. After arranging the clips, I imported them into Adobe Premiere Pro and edited them into a complete advertisement.

Through this exercise, I learned that continuity is very important in video editing. The cuts between shots should feel natural so that the audience can follow the story without confusion.

## Week 1 Test

After learning about shot size, camera angle and composition, we completed the Week 1 test. This test helped me review the basic knowledge from the lecture.

Through the test, I became more familiar with different shot sizes and camera angles. I also understood more clearly how these visual elements affect storytelling in video production.

My result was not very satisfactory. It seems that I did not fully understand the knowledge. I have reviewed the questions I got wrong and now understand them.

## Week 2: Framing Shooting Exercise

For the Week 2 framing shooting exercise, we created a short video with the theme of “stalking”. We worked in a small group. In the video, we used different shot sizes and camera angles to show the story.

During the shooting process, we planned the shots based on the mood of the scene. Since the theme was suspenseful, we used suitable framing and music to create tension. After shooting, I edited the clips in Adobe Premiere Pro and added subtitles to show the shot types used in different parts of the video.

This exercise helped me apply the knowledge from the lecture into real shooting practice. I learned that shot size, framing and camera angle can strongly affect the feeling of a video.

## Week 2: Three-Act Structure Film Analysis

Film 1: Lalin

Act 1

Act 1 introduces Lalin, a young woman who has experienced bullying and negative comments because of her appearance. Because of this, she loses confidence and becomes afraid to show her real face. She tries to create a perfect image online and hides her true appearance. This part sets up her main problem: she wants to be accepted, but she is also afraid of being rejected.

Act 2

Act 2 shows Lalin becoming more popular online, but her inner conflict also becomes stronger. She continues to hide her real face while building a connection with Nut. This relationship makes her feel happy, but it also makes her more anxious because she is afraid that the truth will be discovered. The conflict becomes deeper because it is no longer only about appearance, but also about honesty and real relationships.

Act 3

Act 3 focuses on Lalin facing her fear. She finally removes her mask and shows her real face. This moment is important because she stops hiding and begins to accept herself. The story ends with the idea that true confidence comes from self-acceptance, not from a fake online image.

Inciting Incident

The inciting incident is Lalin’s painful experience of being bullied and rejected because of her appearance. This experience pushes her to hide her real self and create a perfect online identity.

Midpoint

The midpoint happens when Lalin develops a closer relationship with Nut. At this point, the story becomes more serious because she may lose a real relationship if she continues hiding the truth.

Climax

The climax is the moment when Lalin takes off her mask and reveals her real face. This is the highest emotional point of the story because she directly faces her biggest fear.

Theme

The theme of Lalin is self-acceptance. The film shows the pressure caused by appearance standards and social media. It suggests that real beauty and value come from honesty and accepting oneself.

Film 2: Everything Everywhere All At Once

Act 1

Act 1 introduces Evelyn, a woman who is under pressure from her family, her business and a tax audit. Her relationship with her husband Waymond and her daughter Joy is also difficult. Her normal life changes when she is introduced to the multiverse. This event pulls her into a larger conflict and starts the main story.

Act 2

Act 2 shows Evelyn learning about different universes and gaining different abilities. At first, the conflict seems to be about saving the multiverse. However, the story becomes more emotional when Evelyn realizes that the main problem is connected to Joy. The conflict changes from an external problem to a family and emotional problem.

Act 3

Act 3 shows Evelyn solving the conflict in a different way. Instead of using violence, she learns to understand Joy and respond with kindness. The story ends with emotional communication and reconciliation between family members. Evelyn learns that even in a chaotic world, love and connection can still give life meaning.

Inciting Incident

The inciting incident happens when Evelyn is introduced to universe jumping and realizes that her normal life is connected to a much bigger multiverse conflict.

Midpoint

The midpoint happens when Evelyn understands more about the multiverse and realizes that the conflict is closely connected to Joy. This changes the direction of the story and makes the emotional conflict more important.

Climax

The climax is the emotional confrontation between Evelyn and Joy. Evelyn chooses to understand and accept Joy instead of continuing to fight. This is the strongest emotional moment of the film.

Theme

The theme of Everything Everywhere All At Once is about family, meaning and connection. The film shows that life can feel chaotic and meaningless, but love, kindness and family connection can help people find meaning.

Week 2 Test

After learning about the three-act structure, we completed the Week 2 test. This test helped me review the meaning of Act 1, Act 2, Act 3, inciting incident, midpoint, climax and theme.

Through this test, I understood how story structure can help us analyze films more clearly. It also helped me think about how to plan a story before shooting a video.

Week 3: Shooting Exercise / Test

In Week 3, we continued with another shooting exercise and test. This exercise allowed us to continue practicing the use of shot size, framing and camera angle.

During this process, I paid more attention to how the shots were arranged and how the video could be understood by the audience. This practice helped me become more familiar with the basic production process, from shooting to editing.

5. Reflection

Experience

Through Task 1, I gained basic experience in video editing, shooting and film analysis. The Mints and Doritos exercises helped me understand how to arrange clips in the correct order. The framing shooting exercise helped me apply shot size and camera angle in a real video.

Observation

I observed that video production requires both technical skills and storytelling skills. A shot can create different meanings depending on its size, angle and composition. I also noticed that music and subtitles can help the audience understand the mood and structure of a video more clearly.

Findings

The most important thing I learned is that editing and shooting are closely connected. Good shooting can make editing easier, and good editing can make the story clearer. I also learned that the three-act structure is useful for understanding how a story develops from setup to conflict and resolution. In future projects, I want to plan my shots more carefully before filming.
